Fernery Paintings

Fernery with Moon Butterflies Dragonfly

The idea behind this personal garden art painting was to always have some ferns when the real ones die back in winter.  The bronzed trellis was chosen for border decorative effect and this small painting of 30H x 24W inches is really an idea for a larger mural in which the scene is viewed beyond a gate. Butterflies and moon stand out against the strong blue background. I copied the dragonfly from a photograph of a real 4 inch turquoise dragonfly which came into the living room.

With any design subject matter there are many variations of interpretations to explore; such as the pattern in the fern fronds and the mirrored pattern of butterfly wings.  The spirals of unfurling fronds are very pretty, as a cosmic form.  More ferns from the pond setting.
