Ancient Ferns

The annual unfurling of fresh fern spirals produce bright limey green fronds which turn darker green as the fronds mature. They are quite happy in confined pots renewing annually.  Although some fronds will go brown, rusty looking and whither in winter, 2 or 3 of the best fronds tend to stay as a darker green and droop a little, giving a different display in a protected area.  I created the painting for when there are no ferns. The previous year's fronds are removed as the new spirals appear.
