The River Bovey near Dartmoor in February with lots of moss on trunks and lichens where branches are fallen, or felled. River runs through Parke Estate, National Trust.  New catkins were almost luminescent with no sun out.

River valleys with moss growing on tree trunks is usually a sign of temperate rain forest, of which there are a few areas in Devon.

The light green oak shaped lichen can make a purple dye if soaked in ammonia or urine for 3-6 months.
